FOR THE EMPEROR!!!

http://www.betanews.com/joewilcox/article/7-people-who-are-returning-their-iPads/1270688736

A lot of good reasons for not buying into the hype, especially down in the comments below the article. I especially like the comment about how the iPad "just doesn't fit" into their day-to-day lives. Myself, I'm a tinkerer by heart, so my reason for not buying one follows the Maker creed: "If you can't open it up, you don't own it."

I'll say this I was all anti-Ipad till I got my hands on one.  Sure it has its limations and the whole not opening it up thing applies to most apple products.  I'm not going to spend the 500 bucks to get one but it is a pretty neat device hands on.

one of my favorite blogs regarding the iPad went something like this......

"I picked up my new beautiful toy late that afternoon...took it to dinner..  we played some games... showed it off to some friends, and took it back to my apartment that evening.  We played for a couple of hours before I took it to bed...  that next morning, I rolled over to see iPad on the other pillow... it didnt have the same appeal that it once had the night before.  I started to have second thoughts of having a lasting relationship...  I just couldnt think of anything we had in common that I didnt already have in my relationship with my iPhone, plus I couldnt help but feel guilt that i had been cheating on my iPhone all along..   I held that iPad one last time before placing it back into the box it came in..  and promptly went back to that corner where we had met...and returned the iPad back to its original home..."

..and fyi... this isnt my story... really..     I have played with the iPad, at BestBuy...and like Destro.. i too think its a cool toy...but just a toy, nothing more.   ...and last i had checked.. .the iPad doesnt shoot paintballs either.. yet..

@Meat: LOL yeah I saw that comment too. Very well put!  Smiley

This next one is a bit of the pendulum swinging too far the other way:

 Shocked

Although I have no affinity toward the iPad, I'm too much of a gadget geek to do something this bold. I regurgitate a little every time I see that vid.   Undecided

Yea no matter how much you hate something wanton destruction on an expensive device like that is just plan stupid.  I'm sure they did it for the youtube hits but i be more sick at the idea of 500 bucks being destroyed so quickly after the rush was gone.  I'm not rich and that 500 could have gotten me alot of things I did want.

It seems every time a new "console" comes out, someone has make a video smashing it...  This makes me sick.  Even if they didn't like the device, why break it?  If you want hits, make a contest where it gets donated to a random subscriber, like Leo Laporte did on his tech show.  I would love to get one of these devices, but I agree at the current price point, its not worth the investment.  Most of the people that were returning them, were expecting a computer...  Thats not what this device is; it shouldn't be thought of as a computer - it can't do Flash* - it can't multi-task.  Its a content device-not a new Mac.  The people who didn't do their homework and get buyer's remorse, only have themselves to blame.

*It can't do Flash but you could run a VNC app and run Flash on another computer.  Not the best work around, but if you're creative enough, there's a way to do anything. Smiley

I've seen several of these "Pet & IPad" videos, and I have one thing to ask to these people making them: "Are you insane?"  You know once they learn how to use the internet, the pet uprising isn't too far away!  IT MAY ALREADY BE TOO LATE!  On a side note, cats seem to like the IPad a little more than dogs...
