We're back! Ready for a LAN!?!?!?!?!
«

To all our fellow gamers, young and old! -
We have spent a lot of time securing the hotel for our events this year. With the economy being the way it is (and those darn consoles!) We are limiting ourselves to two major parties a year for 2010. (May 14-15 [Pre Graduation] and Oct 15 -16 [Halloween Bash!!!!])
MAY 14 - 15 at Quality Suites in Pineville, NC (Check the Event Location link on the left side)
Time: May 14th @ 5:00pm until May 15th @ 9:00pm
Cost: $20.00 per person for over 30 hours of gaming!
Now here are the details. We have simplified the events. We have removed sponsors since it is difficult to get them. This gives more time for gaming. We are also going to have user choice tournaments that are decided the day of the event. We have seen the the gamers that come to our event are all pretty close friends and are there to not only game, but to also catch up with gamers that they only get to talk to online via X-Fire or VOIP. We hope to have more larger scale games and allow the event to be a time to have fun with like minded individuals.
With that said, we still want to try to bring new people to the event, but want to make sure everyone knows that we are still a family based event that is
non-competitive
and there to support the gaming habits of our party goers.
We have set the price at $20.00 per person for the event. This is taking into account that we have enough people to cover the room cost and that's it. It currently costs the Crew $200.00 for a two day event (plus those pesky hotel taxes). If we have less than enough people to cover the cost of the room. We may be passing the hat the day of the event. We don't see that happening though.
For this reason, please make sure you pre-register so we know who is going to attend. We have our Lan Reg page for people to register. If you are not sure, post in this thread and let us know that you might come. This will help the CCGA crew have an accurate head count for our events.

Awesome. Where do I sign up? October '09 is still up under LAN Reg... We might want to put up a big
SIGN UP
button on the side bar just in case people don't see the LAN Reg button at the top. It also could be construed as Regulations instead of Registration...

1) It's April 19th, and still no LAN registration available.
2) Any chance on a non-PayPal option? I've had issues with them in the past.
3) It's been so long since I've been to a LAN, I think I'm dreaming. Please pinch me....

The registration form is up. If you can't paypal, then send me an email (spectere@carolinagaming) and I can make arrangements for payment.

All paid up and got my reservation. I know we're doing user choice games, however, I've been engulfed in EVE Online for so long I honestly don't know what FPS's are popular anymore. Anyone want to give me some hits as to what games to purchase?

The only FPS I've picked up since the last LAN was Battlefield Bad Company 2, so I'd like some suggestions as well... Has anyone picked up Bioshock 2? Is its MP worth it?
Left 4 Dead never seemed too popular at the LAN, but I noticed the sequel, Left 4 Dead 2, is on sale on Steam ($20.09)... I still haven't completed all of the campaigns in it yet. Bioware crippled my FPS game-time with their wonderful RPGs...
I also have Borderlands and Red Faction Guerilla but haven't done too much MP with them. I wouldn't run out and buy them, but if you have 'em and want to play, I wouldn't say no.
I wouldn't mind just kicking back and playing more Far Cry 2, Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament 3 or Call of Duty 4.

Ditto on the game selection issue. I haven't picked up any games in the last 12 months (the last one being Dawn of War 2). the only games in my current rotation are DoW2, TF2 and UT3, with an occasional bout of Warsow. Free play is all good and well, but we should have some sort of consensus on 5-6 core games.
@Vesper: CoD 4 would be nice (not that MW2 or Bad Company crap), as I haven't played it since it first came out. I only bought it for a LAN I went to when it first came out, played it for about 3 months, then went back to TF2. I'd like to get more of my money out of it, so yeah, let's do it.

Warsow would be a good one, since it's free. Everybody can get it. Paintball2 is another free one (shameless plug
). I also probably have enough extra copies of Far Cry 2 for anybody that doesn't have a copy yet. Most people have R6Vegas2 as well, right?
I have Bad Company 2, but I haven't tried the multiplayer yet. I also have Borderlands, but that's limited to 4 player coop.

I never really gave Warsow a fair chance. It reminded me a little too much of Quake 3; I was into UT more in those days.
But Paintball2 is always a fun game. Should I reinstall FEAR & Wolfenstein ET; or are they all played out?
@Darkstorm:
$60 pricetag + No Russian + Bioware releases = I never picked up MW2 either...
I saw it on sale a while ago, but didn't pick it up... Figured it was more like an Xbox360 sensation than a PC must-get title... Besides, I have enough military shooters.

@Vesper: Agree with the MW2 comment. The whole "virtual military realism" idea in the gaming market is over-saturated and out-of-favor. And the Xbox360 insight is probably accurate too.
Wolf ET: Waaaaay out of date, that and it's filled with mostly hackers nowadays, I'd rather do some Quake Live
Paintball 2: Never played it. I'll have to see about getting that
FEAR Combat (free): Fun, but gets boring very quickly (hiding in the shadows loses it's thrill after 3 kills
Rainbow6, et all: Honestly, I haven't picked up a copy of R6 since the original Rogue Spear came out
What about ET:Quake Wars? Red Alert 3? Anyone still play these, or are they also played out?
What about mods? I've heard good things about the Tribal Wars mod for Quake Wars (for the old Tribes fans). Here's an assortment of HL2/Source mods:

Any others?

Glad to see I am not the only one not keeping up with the newer games. I was a little hesitant on comming this time since I have not been able to buy many new games with being laid off still. Picked up COD Modern warfare 2 for Christmas but other then that only have the old games like farcry 2 UT3 etc etc.
The chicken Coop is built and the garden planted. Talked with the wife and it would appear I am in the green for both myself and matthew to make it. Just gotta get the games all reinstalled from the wipe a few months back.

@Spectrallight:
Good to hear you and Matthew can make it.
@DarkStorm:
Where you able to get Tribal Wars to work? I think I may have installed the patch incorrectly, but I can't seem to get it running properly. I'll have to try uninstalling and reinstalling again sometime this week.
@Spectere:
I never really got into RA3, but I see you have DoW2; I never really played it much online - got it late in its life cycle and was too intimidated to try it. We might be able to get some people for a game of that...
And you know I'm down for some UT3.

Vesper, you know I'll play anything. I'll be traveling light with my laptop, so I can bring more games in case I need to install them.
