Any plans for any 2011 LAN's?

Recently read about another new LAN up in Winston Salem, NC scheduled for Valentine's day (Feb 12th) while this maybe 2 hours away from Charlotte it is still better than no LAN's at all, and if we don't do a CO-LAN with any of the other LAN's LAN parties may die out around here.

Any plans for any 2011 LAN's?

At this time , there has been no discussion of any Lans this year. That's not to say we won't have one if we get enough interest and if we can get a room. I am unsure if we even negotiated a new deal with the hotel for this year.

Most of the crew has gotten pretty busy with our personal lives either with family's or other ventures as has most of our core Lan partiers. That mixed with the economy downfall for the last two years, rising prices in games, and ease of playing at home on high speed have made it very hard for Lans to function.

Who knows what the future will hold though.

We are looking for alternate venues from what we had.  With rising costs and the decline of lan party attendees, going the hotel route is cost prohibitive.

If you hear of a meeting place that has:

space for 50 people
Tables and chairs
power
internet

and not in the middle of an abandoned warehouse district, we'd like to hear about it.

There are also talks from some of our veteran LAN Party attendees about having some other types of gaming in the association and re-purpose the CCGA as a Carolina Community Gaming Association. This would include not only Computer games, but Console, Board, and Card Games.  It would be a place to talk about new games coming out and get together to try out these games.  Some of the people that are friends outside the lan party have had weekends where they have gotten together and played other types of games and had a great time.

To take this bigger, it would of course need a good base group of people that would be willing to split the cost of a venue.  The CCGA does own tables, but chairs would be an issue.

If anyone wants to discuss more, post up and we will create a new thread to see about getting this off the ground.

I haven't been around in a long time. How much has the group shrunk?

Average around 20 per party.

I miss CCGA Lans.  I know NCGaming does lans here in WInston, but I haven't gone to any yet.  We also still have the TOGA group up here and we do 'local" lans with about 8-12 friends getting together at someone's house :)  Maybe there's a way for us to find the other "area" lans and lan-goers and use those resources to make a "big" lan convention maybe once or twice a year.....

Went  to an Linux install fest today at Hackerspace Charlotte in the NoDa district, and the place has a-lot going on in there.  Know it has power, internet, and some tables though not sure about chairs if you don't count stools. Would probably be worth getting in touch with them and seeing what all they can offer.
