July Muli-Day ARMAGEDDON!!! Review by [CCGA]Meatshield
To begin with… this is probably the first multi-day LAN in memory that we were not rained on! Also, being in the mid of July, we were very pleased that the room seemed to keep a good temperature… this kept your neighbors from sweating too bad as well…(unless involved in tournament play). Many Kudos to the Quality Suites staff for replacing the previously fault A/C completely. The setup went along as planned. Having our conference center already wired makes it soo easy to set up. As do having [CCGA]Spectere and [CCGA]Lefty take the day off from work to get things going early in the day. And good thing too. A minor issue with leaking pipes in the ceiling was taken care of promptly (thanks again to the hotel staff). As gamers began to arrive, we were also able to test out our newest servers for the event. Ever wonder where the money the CCGA makes goes? In this case three 64 bit AMD servers from one of our sponsors ATD. Through the party, we never had a “hardware” glitch the entire event! Great success in that area, and thanks should especially go to [CCGA]Umpa and [CCGA]Spectere for getting the servers built and setup. The room began to fill...but not as much as we would have liked. We were still about 20 short to make a full room, but this also made room for our x-box setup which hosted our MYSTERY TOURNAMENT later in the evening. As everyone predicted, Battlefield 2 was very prominent throughout the night. It seems to have made a great hit with all that had the game. Other games seen being played were CounterStrike:Source and Unreal Tournament 2k4. After some control tweeking..the first tournament began.
Tournament #1 – Joint Operations – AI team Challenge This tournament was a little different than the norm. 5 playes teamed up to go against the AI in Joint Ops. The team that came out with the highest score at the end of all the matches took home the trophies. 5 teams played, and the victors were: |RoC|Inigma |RoC|Cero |RoC|Sek [CCGA]Lefty [CCGA]Spectere
If anyone has a screenshot of their match end, please send it to me and we'll get it posted too. Tournament #2 – Empire Earth 2 The Empire Earth 2 tournament was a first with us, and turned out fairly well. The rules stated that at the end of one hour, players would cease play and the highest score would determine the winner. The final two players were |RoC|Cero and [CCGA]Lefty. After mass destruction and the alotted 60 minutes, [CCGA]Lefty barely edged |RoC|Cero out to take home the bragging rights. The winner of this tournament goes to: [CCGA]Lefty
. Empire Earth II Brackets
Tournament #3 – Mystery Tournament I must admit, we were a little tricky on this one. We held the sign-ups first before even announcing the game.. and when we had over 15 to sign up…once we announced the game to be DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION (X-Box)..we were pleased to see we still had about 8 contestants. There is nothing like seeing a bunch of “chair-tied” gaming geeks jump on a dance mat and get their groove on!!! Obviously a site to be seen.. There were some heated battles with many of the matches being decided by 5-10 points. But after all the dust settled, and sweat was toweled off, the winner was : Spyder

The rest of Friday night was about the same as earlier in the day… Battlefield 2 server being hit hard. After a few hours of flight lessons and sniper tricks... in comes Saturday. The second day of the party brought in another small handful of gamers ready to try their skill, in addition to the gamers already there. Once they settled in, the first tournament of the day was on... Tournament #4 – UT 2k4 – 3 on 3 Game and map selection for this tournament was completely random. Neither side had any say so to what or where they were to play. A true test to UT skills and team play.. In the end, the winners were Team UMM: Vesper YodaTaco NuclearWinter

And last but certainly not least, Tournament #5 – Battlefield 2 - 5 on 5 double elimination All I can say is…. We played a whole lot of Battlefield 2 this weekend. This tournament was played with the best out of 5 matches before a loss was given. For future notes...never do a best out of 5. This proves to have a veeerrrry long tournament. As seen in Saturday's non-stop action. The finals ended up (about 5 hours later) with the winner's bracket playing the top of the loser's bracket which of course allowed the team in the winner's bracket to play at least 2 more sets since they had yet to be handed their first lost. So the finals lasted 9, 15 min maps matches. Much Battlefield for even the most die-hard gamer... but the team to rise from trenches is : [CCGA]Umpa [CCGA]Lefty [CCGA]Spectere [CCGA]MeatShield |RoC|NuclearWinter*
(*also experienced a controller malfunction, similar to that of a helicopter control falling off into your lap.) Thanks to Flash for allowing use of his controllers to bring the win to the squad.
