Carolina ARMAGEDDON!

January 16-17th, 2004

Firs lan of the new year...

Review by [CCGA]Meatshield

Well can you believe it ??!! Another multi-day LAN come and gone.. and looking back, it was somewhat a blur.. Beginning with the setup. The CCGA Crew began to arrive at Quality Suites at about 1:00 pm to begin the setup of the tables, servers, network, and corporate swag. Thanks to the great turnouts that we have been having at the last LANs, we were able to replace some of our little bitty 5 foot tables with new sturdy 6 foot ones…movin' on up!!!

At about 5:00 pm , staff had just about all but finished with the setup, and started to bring in their own pcs. Of course Spectere and Spectrallight were more than happy to show off their newest purchases. Oh how nice it would be to win the lottery…

At 6:00 pm , the doors finally opened allowing all to flood into the room to claim their new home for the next 28 hours. Free-play commenced for the next few hours with the majority playing either BF1942 or Call of Duty...

At 9:00 pm we opened the registration for both the C&C Generals and UT 2vs2 domination tourneys... also out of the kindness of their big hearts, |RoC| sponsored a little giveaway of their own... a copy of Call of Duty, a GoGamer t-shirt, and a case of BAWLS.

“And the winners please…”

Call of Duty goes to: Xavier

Case of BAWLS and the GoGamer t-shirt goes to: storm1n.

OH…and how could we forget... our buddy Nuclearwinter also was gracious enough to raffle off his cool R/C mini Tank as well, to… Pyle

And now the battles begin for the C&C Generals and UT domination tourneys..

The C&C Generals and UT 2 vs. 2 Domination tourney started promptly at 9:00 pm , then went through the night. Hotly contested, the old school tourney was a blast! About 8 teams joined the competition, brushing off the UT cobwebs to once again run amok.

In the end, |RoC|'s Sekm3th and [CCGA]'s own Spectere ruled the fragways to finish in first place.

The C & C Generals matches were either grueling or decided in a few minutes. It ran through the night and finished Saturday morning, with [TARD]Redneck besting |RoC|Sekm3th to come out on top. Sek, there's a new sheriff in the C&C town!

Everyone commenced to play through the wee hours into Saturday morning... although only a handful of hardcore gamers decided to test their stamina… 8 actually, counting the 3 members of the crew. A game of Generals and Rise of Nations was being tossed around, but Call of Duty won the votes... (all the while I was trying to devise a plan to “borrow” Spectrallight's new ATI 9800 pro video card.).

We started to see the early risers at about 6:00 am with coffee and breakfast biscuits from Burger King from across the street and also breakfast right in the hotel lobby. From here on through about 11:00 am it was more of the same, massive multiplayer of Call of Duty and BF1942… oh but there was an addition to the selection of maps that were playable for BF1942 DC. Actually these custom, never before see maps were made available by the tda team on Friday night for all to play, in preparation for the $500 UltraGib Tournament. A total of 4 maps: Archipelago, Old River Depot, Steeple Chase, and Take the Hill (my personal favorite for reasons explained later).

At around 11 am , we began the massive Call of Duty-Behind Enemy Lines tourney that had everyone shooting everyone else… trying to get the highest points possible…

The fraggiest fragger of all fraggers is:

gantoris

FREE PLAY!!! Mostly preparation for the next tournament… ULTRAGIB!!!

tda was gracious enough to host AND sponsor this massive tournament that included $50 EB gift cards, and a sweeeet ATI 9800 Pro 128mb video card that would be raffled off to a lucky individual who entered the tournament..

There were a total of 8 - 5 man teams.. hmm … carry the 1, subtract 4.. divide by 359….giving us a total of 40 gamers involved in this one.. and man was the battles furious!!!

It all came down to team 3 (Mr.clark, Gantoris, Skeet, tda.robber, and [CCGA]Meatshield) and team 1 (yodataco, [CCGA]Umpa , |RoC|Vesper, Storm1n, and pug). It was a long hard fought battle that lasted a grueling 5 matches.. ~nudging at Vesper~.. but team 3 finally pulled out the win.. playing Take the Hill for all 5 matches.. (actually all 10 matches playing Take the Hill..) and the members of Team 3:

Gantoris

Skeet

Mr. Clark

[CCGA]MeatShield (grins)

tda.robber

Being that tda.robber is a member of the hosting team, but was playing as a reserve subsitute player (to keep the teams balanced), tda.robber was not eligible for the $50 EB gift card….so, lets raffle it away…. The winner is:

Pug

And the lucky “bleep” that won sweeet ATI 9800 Pro given away by tda and Ultragib:

|RoC| Cero !!

(ed. note: admission goes up next party just for Mr. IGOTTARADEON)

More freeplay…CoD, Battlefield, AoM, Halo, XMP, even someone wanting to play Starcraft!

Gee what's next ?!? Howabout more BF1942 and Call of Duty? But wait.. do I see other games being played?? I think I now see a few now playing Halo multiplayer and Enemy Territory

Coming close to 9:00 pm, the CCGA Crew decided to extend the party another hour till 10:00 pm … man, what a day!... Gaming is starting to wind down…pc's beginning to be packed up.. It looks like another excellent multi-day CCGA LAN party is coming to a close.. but wait!!

BITTER END PRIZES!!

For those ultra-dedicated fraggers that just couldn't get enough... we still have 2 more prizes to give away!!

Best Buy (another new sponsor!) - $25 gift card

[CCGA]FreeBeak

Skeet

And now… the cleanup... Thanks again for all who thought that the rest of the night was too shot to do anything else, and decided to help with putting away all the tables and chairs. We always welcome the help... and we are very thankful to have such a great group of peeps to help out. Although the trash-talking was a bit excessive... :-p

I think that I can speak for the rest of the CCGA crew when I say that we thank all who decided to come out and be a part of our little party. We always enjoy ourselves when we see that others are having so much fun. Once again we would like to give a huge thanks to our sponsors… mostly the tda guys, and Quality Suites for putting up with our craziness..

And don't forget the next Carolina ARMAGEDDON - MARCH 20 TH !!!!

Carolina ARMAGEDDON!....ARE YOU READY?

Until Armageddon!
